pintapeces
Invited by AC3E to take part in Chile’s National Science Festival (FECI), Electroveja Labs was challenged to create an experience that could bring science, technology, knowledge, and innovation closer to people in an engaging and playful way.
The 2020 edition of FECI had a strong digital component due to the health crisis, which meant reimagining participation at a distance. Our goal was to make participants feel like they were part of a technological experience—one that allowed them to express themselves creatively from their own homes.
This gave rise to Pintapeces, an interactive virtual aquarium filled with digital fish painted by the community. Users downloaded fish templates, colored them by hand, photographed their drawings, and uploaded them to a website—watching as their fish appeared in real time inside a live-streamed aquarium on YouTube.
Children and adults alike delighted in sending their creations to the virtual tank during the days of the festival. The reception was so positive that the project caught the attention of the Instituto de Fomento Pesquero (IFOP), opening the way to transform Pintapeces into a platform for showcasing the marine biodiversity of Chile’s Valparaíso region.
